GOZO

The island of 67 square kilometres is accessible through a mere half-hour ferry ride from Malta. It consists of 43km of coastline and boasts some unique locations that, unlike parts of its sister island, are largely untouched by modern development. The tranquil, laid-back, green and, to some extent hilly, locations makes the island very appealing for filmmakers who seek a fantastical and panoramic look (example "Game of Thrones", "The Odyssey", "Vicky the Viking") or a truly picturesque and character-filled Mediterranean look (example "By the Sea", "The Count of Monte Cristo").

Here are the pros and cons to filming in Gozo:

PROS

Gozitons are known to be very friendly with the film industry, probably because they do not experience enough filming 'disruptions'.

Gozitons are also eager to work hard for the opportunity of earning additional revenue;

Prices in Gozo can be somewhat cheaper than Malta;

The island is so small that a unit move between one location and another can be achieved within under an hour;

Some locations offer unique production value that not even Malta can compete with;

CONS

It takes approximately 2-3 hours to move a unit from Malta to Gozo;

Many skilled film crews may have to come from Malta, but these can reside in apartments and many are happy to share;
