Malcolm Scerri Ferrante is widely recognised for his expertise in budgeting, cost control and maximising production value.
He began “stalking” film sets in Malta during his summer holidays at 14 and became a trainee at 16 on the German feature Der Skipper with Jurgen Prochnow. Shortly thereafter, he worked with ABC News alongside Peter Jennings on coverage of the historic Bush-Gorbachev Summit.
By 19, Malcolm had produced his first Maltese television series (Close Up) and at 21 he production managed his first international feature (Merisairas). Before he reached 30, he set up Malta's first production service company The Producer's Creative Partnership and line-produced A Different Loyalty, starring Sharon Stone.
His career has since taken him far beyond Malta, working across Colombia, Morocco, Canada, Jordan, Israel, Hungary, South Africa and Italy, and collaborating with acclaimed directors including Guy Ritchie and Oliver Stone.
In 1998, he joined Catalyst Entertainment in Toronto to oversee both marketing and production at the world-class water SFX facility Mediterranean Film Studios, which achieved its busiest year on record in 1999 under his leadership.
Appointed to the Maltese Government’s Film Advisory Board in 2000, Malcolm played a key role in advocating for and helping shape Malta’s first national film incentives.
Malcolm joined the Production Guild of Great Britain (PGGB) in 2011 and that same year participated in Europe’s respected Production Value Workshop in Sweden. He has also conducted short courses in EP’s Movie Magic Budgeting and Production Management.
As a freelance Line Producer and Production Manager - now for over three decades - he has contributed to major productions including The Count of Monte Cristo, Asterix & Obelix vs. Cleopatra, Papillon, Eragon, and Alexander: The Making of a God. He has also so far line produced over 50 television and cinema commercials for global brands which included as Bacardi, L’Oréal, Chanel, Corona, Shell and Coca-Cola.
He is the author of the political thriller Sovereign, based on true events.
