Behind-the-Scenes of a pirate commercial involving scaled models and a life-size ship,
all filmed inside the Shallow Tank.
In Mexico on the celebration of the Day of the Dead it is customary to wear 'scary' skull masks. Corona decided to use this theme for its TV & Cinema advert which was filmed entirely in the Shallow Tank of Malta. We sourced two heroes from Budapest, who were mainly stuntmen, and hired some 50 Maltese extras as pirates and British navy crew. All prop-weapons were manufactured in Malta except for some rented from local drama groups. Two models were used for the storm sequences and life-size sections used for the battle scenes. The models were rigged with small canons that were able to fire, thanks to a local pyrotechnics technician.

Water SFX in Malta's film tanks
This video was created in 1994 as the first audio-visual demonstration of how the tanks work
Behind-the-Scenes of a Discovery documentary involving a life-size yacht,
filmed inside the Shallow Tank.
An episode of "I Should Not Be Alive" revolved around a man who was lost at sea after his yacht was hit by a storm. A damaged yacht was purchased and placed on an underwater rig inside the Shallow Tank. This tank is best for storm effects since SFX machinery can be dragged around it in a strategic manner. This video shows how such machinery works using fans, tip tanks and water spray.
